AUDLEY END AIRFIELD

Vintage Fabrics, Audley End Airfield, Saffron Walden, Essex. CB11 4LH. UK

Audley End resides beneath and adjacent to Class D controlled airspace. The airfield currently has a very small local flying area allocated within the Stansted CTR up to altitude 1,500ft only, to cater for 36 arrivals and 18 departures.

We enjoy a good working relationship with our neighbours, and have a self-imposed Noise Abatement procedure for operating into and out of the airfield.

Refer to the diagram at the end of this information note for further situational awareness, and ensure you read the following prior to arrival or departure.

General Procedures

PPR is Mandatory (contact details in the header of this information note). PPR is to include Aircraft Registration, Aircraft Type, Pilot Name , Contact Telephone Number, Date of Flight, ETA, Number of Persons on Board.

Squawk 7010 in good time, both inbound and outbound. Remain below the Stansted CTA (Altitude 2500ft+). Make all calls on SafetyCom 135.480 to “Audley End Traffic”. Avoid overflying the marked noise abatement areas. All circuits are to the West of the airfield due to the very close proximity of Stansted CTR to the East. Entry into the Stansted CTR without permission (and only in accordance with this procedure) is only permitted within the defined Local flying Area (below altitude 1,500ft). Runway 18 slopes uphill and the threshold area can suffer from low level wind shear when the wind is from the West. Runway 36 threshold has tall trees present. Maintain vigilance at all times for other traffic and controlled airspace boundaries.

All flights making use of the Audley End local flying area (within the Stansted CTR) must be Mode S Elementary SSR equipped, squawking 7010 and remain below altitude 1,500ft. Aircraft not equipped must gain a clearance from Stansted Radar 120,.625MHz prior to entry.

Joining and landing procedures

Approach the airfield from the North or West unless explicitly in contact with Stansted Radar (120.625MHz) with an appropriate clearance. Join overhead on the runway centreline below Altitude 1,500ft, descending to the West to join downwind for either runway. Do not fly East of the runway centreline. If landing on 18, backtrack the runway as required. Parking is on the grass apron to the North of the large Vintage Fabrics main hangar. QR codes are positioned on all three hangar doors; please fill these out; this also has links to paying landing fees.

Departure procedures

Runway 18 has an upslope. Ensure transponder is set to 7010 prior to departure. All departure turns are to the West avoiding noise sensitive areas where possible. Squawk conspicuity when the Audley End vicinity has been left.
